Virat Kohli wants India to improve their death bowling ? Cricket News Update
After another mediocre display, the Indian bowlers have drawn criticism from their top-order batsman, Virat Kohli, who wants the Men in Blue to enhance their death bowling, if they want to compete against the stronger teams in the ICC World T20 2012.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and company possess one of the world?s strongest batting line-ups in the presence of Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh. Their bowling; however, has been under immense criticism over the last two years.
During India?s second warm-up match of the tournament against Pakistan earlier this week, the Green Shirts chased down a mammoth total of 185 runs with ease, exposing Zaheer Khan and company?s impotency on flat tracks.
Afghanistan also showed impressive fight with the bat against India last night, losing the match by just 23 runs.
Kohli, who was named as the Player of the Match for his brilliant half-century, wanted the Indian victory to be a more comprehensive one. The stylish right-hander wants his bowlers to do better in the latter stages of an innings.
"I believe we could have done better as a bowling unit and won by a bigger margin. We could have bowled in better areas. I think our bowling in the initial overs has been pretty good but it is the bowling at the death that needs to improve," Kohli said.
Praising the spirited effort put up by the Afghans, Kohli expressed that Nawroz Mangal-led side played fearless cricket because they had nothing to lose. In such matches, the talented batsman believes, pressure is always on the higher ranked side because of the stakes involved.
"That's exactly what happens when you play a lower-ranked opposition. They do not have the fear of failure. They are not concerned about the match situations and little things,? he added. "Normally, in these situations, you find players expressing themselves well and doing the right things more often than not."
India will now take on England, the defending champions, on September 23rd at the same venue and would love to carry forward the momentum in the Super 8 stage by beating the defending T20 champions.
